Traveling is definitely still an option with your aging adult, even if she needs a little extra help. You may just want to do some extra thorough planning in advance.
Brainstorm Possible Ideas
Sit down with your elderly family member and make a list of all the different places she might want to go. You might also want to make a list of day trip ideas and overnight or longer trips. Just because it makes the list, that doesn't mean you have to go to those places, but reasonable ideas should definitely make the cut.
Talk to Her Doctor
Once you've narrowed down a travel idea, you might want to schedule some time to talk to your senior's doctor. He can help you to spot any potential pitfalls or problems that your elderly family member could face due to her health. He may also be able to provide you with backup prescriptions, just in case your senior needs them.
Make Plans and Call Ahead
As you're firming up plans, you'll want to call ahead to hotels and transportation providers. Make sure that they know about any special considerations that your senior has and find out how else they can accommodate your senior. They may be able to put you in touch with local agencies that can help your elderly family member while you're there.
Make a Packing List and Add to it as Necessary
Several days before your trip, make sure that you list out everything that your senior might need while you're traveling. The reason you want to do this several days in advance is that you'll have the chance to go through your senior's daily routine several times in a row. You'll be able to spot anything that you've missed putting on your list, so that when you go to pack you're less likely to forget important items.
Consider Getting Extra Help
You may want to seek out elderly care providers in the area you'll be traveling in. They can help you to handle transportation issues and offer other types of assistance that you and your elderly family member might need while you're away from home. Having that extra help can keep you from feeling as overwhelmed on the trip.
Depending on your senior's health conditions and general health, traveling can be exactly the ticket to help her have a fun adventure. Remember also that you can plan ahead as much as possible, but there may still be some surprises along the way so try to stay as flexible as possible.
